Meet Our Physical Therapy Team

David Wenger, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS, earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York Institute of Technology in 2003. Since that time he has worked for over 10 years in the outpatient setting. Has been successfully treating patients with spinal and pelvic dysfunctions, post surgical and general orthopedic impairments, as well as TMJ and vestibular issues. He takes pride in developing a comprehensive, efficient, and effective treatment plan for each of his clients while maintaining the utmost respect for each of his patient’s needs and goals.

Dr. Wenger is also Board Certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). This is considered the highest credential in the field of orthopedic rehabilitation and is currently held by less than 2% of practicing therapist in the United States. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Dr. Wenger specializes in correcting muscle imbalances, postural alignment, and body mechanics to facilitate full recovery utilizing techniques such as muscle energy, spinal mobilization/manipulation, prescriptive exercises, strain-counter-strain, and myofascial release. He utilizes both his passion for manual therapy as well as dynamic functional training programs in the treatment of all his patients.
Dr. Wenger also has extensive experience with sports rehabilitation and the unique ability to return athletes of all levels back to their game. David has treated a wide range of athletes ranging from the weekend warrior to the professional. He has developed sport specific training modules for the professional, collegiate, and high school athletes.
Dr. Wenger is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). He believes improvement, promotion, and contribution to the profession of physical therapy are essential for its progress and development through this ever changing health care field.
Dr. Wenger prides himself in taking extensive continuing education courses with regard to both orthopedics and manual therapy. He brings a wealth of wisdom and experience to Body in Balance and shares this knowledge with our clinical staff and patients.

In his spare time, David spends his time with his wife and 4 children. He enjoys cycling and participating in sprint triathlons and adventure type races. He also enjoys skiing/snowboarding in the winter and playing golf and going to the beach in the summer.

Cindy Byrne, PT, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from SUNY at Buffalo in 1988. She has experience with acute care, rehabilitation, and orthopedics. She spent the first two years at St. John’s Hospital in Smithtown, and then became a locum tenens therapist. She traveled around the country for a year working in various settings and gained experience with manual therapy techniques with state of the art technology. She then settled in Long Island where she began to specialize in orthopedics. Cindy worked at a local clinic for 14 years where she was the Director of Rehabilitation for 4 years. She has also taken many continuing education courses over the years to advance her manual therapy skills. She presently works part time at Body In Balance Physical Therapy and does home care so that she can spend more time at home with her 2 young children.










Dan Anderson, PT, DPT, Staff Physical Therapist, graduated from Stony Brook University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. During his doctoral training he completed clinical internships in orthopedics, acute care, and adult and neurological rehabilitation, including a 16-week internship at Body In Balance PT. Upon graduation, he stayed on at Body In Balance as a part-time physical therapist. Since becoming a full-time member of the physical therapy staff, Dan has continued to expand his physical therapy knowledge and enhance his manual skills through continuing education classes. Dan is currently an adjunct faculty member of the Stony Brook University Physical Therapy Program. Prior to pursuing a career in physical therapy, he enjoyed a successful career as a legislative advocate for paralyzed veterans and people with spinal cord injuries and disorders. A graduate of the State University of New York College at Cortland with a B.A. in Political Science, his orthopedic interests include sports medicine and sport-specific therapy.


Kellen Scantlebury, PT, DPT, CSCS, graduated from L.I.U. Post with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. While studying at L.I.U. Post he was also a member of the Varsity Mens Basketball Team that posted a 30-1 record. His senior year he helped lead his team to the Elite Eight. Kellen went on to receive his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University. He has worked at a variety of settings through his clinical internships and also had the opportunity of treating players from the NFL Jets Organization at their practice facility in New Jersey. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and former athlete, Kellen has interests in orthopedic injuries, sports medicine, sport specific rehabilitation, and injury prevention programs.


Sherry Tinio, PT, DPT, earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health Science with a concentration of Disability Studies and a minor in Women’s studies from Stony Brook University. She continued on to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a majority of her clinical work has been based on working with general orthopedics and in women’s/men’s pelvic health. Upon graduation, Sherry started her career at Body at Balance and continues to develop her clinical expertise within manual-based orthopedic services which also includes the evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction.












Laura Jane Valet, PT, DPT, CSCS, graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics and a minor in Strength and Conditioning. She continued her education at the University of Delaware, receiving a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She continues to expand her education in manual therapy based orthopedic treatment, women’s health treatments, and pelvic floor dysfunction for both men and women. As a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a former NCAA Division 1 athlete, her interests also include sports medicine with sport-specific rehabilitation and return to sports programs.
